AsSalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
My name is Sumaiya Zaman, and I am proud to be part of the Hudson Valley Islamic School community. I have nearly 13 years of experience working with young children and hold a Master of Science degree from Mercy University in Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 2), Childhood Education (Grades 1–6), and Teaching Students with Disabilities through the Tri-Certification Program. I am passionate about creating a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive classroom where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to learn.
Over the past two years at HVIS, I have had the opportunity to teach students across multiple grade levels. Last year, I taught Pre-K 3 and developed the school’s Pre-K 3 curriculum to support early childhood development and school readiness. This year, I taught a combined Kindergarten and First Grade class, helping students build strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, writing, and Islamic studies while developing confidence, independence, and a love of learning. Our classroom utilized the HMH curriculum and New York State learning standards while integrating Islamic studies and values throughout daily instruction.
My goal is to provide a positive learning environment where students grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually through differentiated instruction, hands-on learning experiences, and strong partnerships with families.
