3rd & 4th Grade

Meet our teacher, Sr. Nermina Djokaj!

AsSalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

My name is Sr. Nermina Djokaj. Alhamdulillah, I have had the opportunity to join HVIS last year. I am the 3rd and 4th grade teacher and Academic Coordinator here at HVIS. My education philosophy is to teach and lead with integrity, dedication, and compassion. Our goal at HVIS is to strive for academic excellence, and strengthen our Islamic values. We want to nurture our kids’ diverse learning styles, and support their learning needs, with various instructional strategies.

During the 2025-26 school year I have focused on establishing a Literacy & Math curriculum, and reinforce our readers from KG-3rd grade with the Amira reading Program. You can learn more about this program and our curriculum in the Academics section of our website.

Before working here at HVIS, I worked for MAS, Andalusia School, for 17 years. There, I was the 4th grade

teacher, and lead teacher for elementary school. Additionally, I have also been employed as a Catapult part time teacher, since 2023. Catapult is an intervention program that provides

additional academic support to schools nationwide. I graduated from Hunter College with a

Bachelors in Psychology, and currently, I am finishing my masters in Leadership, Instruction & Curriculum at SNHU (Southern New Hampshire University).

As we are an Islamic School, I believe that establishing strong principles in Iman (Faith), Akhlaq (character), and Ibadah (Worship), are necessary in building not only a good Islamic School, but individuals with a strong sense of Muslim values and community belonging.

My hope is to create an environment in which students will flourish in their Deen, and carry these principles beyond HVIS, and model these Islamic Values wherever Allah leads them to in the future, Insha Allah.

Insha Allah, by working alongside administration, teachers, parents and students, we will achieve the Islamic and Academic goals we aspire for our children.
